Friday March 4 2005

Grace Cathedral Park are a group of Myrtle Beach (South Carolina) formed in 2002 as a personal project of Brent Michael Graham (Composer, Guitar) that is adding more people were able to move to direct the complex nuances of their songs, PCM is currently a group of nine musicians (Kirwin Charles Bell, Christopher Michael Tucker, Nicholas Kenneth McNeill, Michael Shane Smith, Kerrine Elizabeth Gifford, Steven Mark McGowan, Lauren Carol Brown, Auldman John Schofield Rownd and the Michael Brent) that they all have militated in multiple groups.
"In The Evening Of Regret" is the first album the band released in 2004 on a small independent label in New York: The Truth.
Via e-mail we got to talk to Michael Brent who kindly agreed to answer some questions:

-We know it's a boring question (but required): Why do you pusisteis the name of a song from Red House Painters? Are RHC a strong influence on the way to understand your music?

I've been a fan since I can recall RHP ... I have always appreciated the art that have not only in his music, but also in the titles of songs and artwork in general. Grace Cathedral Park conformed well enough for the band name ...

-After the success (critical) of Mogwai, a lot of post-rock bands doing instrumental based on developments with ups and downs and lengthy tracks loaded with intensity. What do you think about these bands? You feel close to the world of bands like Mono, Explosions In The Sky, Friends of Dean Martinez or Goodspeed You Black Emperor!

Mogwai is one of our favorite groups and we have compared them with Goodspeed often had actually thought that we were a Canadian band in more than one occasion, perhaps our Slowcore side or the connotations of our film music, in any form I take it as a compliment.

There are also details in your songs that remind us of other music trends in your line items can be heard and developments which seem to explore land near the Country, Folk or Slowcore. Are these really influential currents for you?

In my collection there are a lot of discs Folk, Slowcore and American, I can assure you, always try not to wear our influences our music, but sometimes inevitably arise, I believe that to be truly happy and honest with the music you do Your album should sound like one of those that you buy even if it was your own band.

- Do you feel part of any scene?. If so, we would like to know which groups would be coming to your philosophy.

There is a scene in which we can include or be Myrtle Beach or be American ... Anyway, I do not think it is important to be part of any scene, but the gender of the slowcore is not far away from us if necessary a comparison.

- You have ever considered adding lyrics and vocals to your songs?

The voices that are not really interested ... The idea is to let people draw their own conclusions and not force anything that does not come from the thoughts of our listeners. I like the idea that music can be converted to a different soundtrack for the lives of everyone who listens.

- How to choose these names so long for your poetry and songs?

With regard to the titles of the songs really do not think too much about it, most raised in a very dark period of my life, but try to keep as blurred as possible, so people can create their own opinion I prefer not lead them too, I like to think that most people who hear our music think freely and do not need to be carried by the hand, especially when we reach the darkest corners of their lives.

- What groups hear today?

I just buy the new album from Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning), and I really like, I also have the new low, even though I could not hear it in depth. I heard that New Songs: Ohia is very good, but also need money to eat. so we have to wait to hear it.

- Do you like the soundtrack? Could you tell your composers and "Scores" Favorites?

I've seen a lot of independent film soundtracks and some really affect you, but others are too far apart to be considered as a musical influence, although they are perfect for the film in question. I like some things that make Tom and Andy, the soundtrack of "The Slaughter Rule" is also surprising to me, that made Jay Farrar ... you should see it if you have not yet had a chance.

- Could you tell us five albums that have been essential in your life?

Five discs favorites eh? ... This sounds familiar to me and should be easy, but it is not even where to start. I will try, but do not get mad if I call you every five minutes and tell you that I have changed my mind.

1.Sigur Ros-()
2.Mogwai-Rock Action
3.Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Company
4.Bonnie Prince Billy-I see a Darkness
5.Low-Curtain Hits the Cast

- Could you tell us your favorite instrumental songs?

My favorite instrumental song ... I was looking for a lot of time during the fourth song on the album Sigur Ros, leaving at the end of Vanilla Sky, and was not a demo version appeared on the soundtrack. I had to wait almost a year until I heard the issue completely, so I guess that would be my choice. Song is a very, very beautiful and so close to perfection as one might expect

- You have ever done a European tour? Do you have plans to play in Spain one day?

Playing in Spain or elsewhere in Europe would be wonderful and we would like to make a tour across the continent, unfortunately, a band of nine musicians is not exactly cheap to put on a plane and travel through 27 different countries. If you have any suggestions, we would be more than happy to listen ..
