Southern Lord 2004
How many years been waiting for this blessed album?. Neither I know.
Dave Grohl has chavalín was a very normal until the tender age of 13 years a premium yours, too caught up in the punk scene, a way to visit him during the summer. Since then this young man's life forever gone wrong, started to hear heavy music, hardcore, punk, rock of all types and became one of the freaky underground.
20 years later, became a drummer, guitarist and vocalist renowned cargadito and millions in its wake by Nirvana, the Foo Fighters and more recently by Queens of the Stone Age, I decided that I wanted to pursue his dream of playing with the teenager Vocal group of hardcore metal and rejoiced that his youth. As well as Dave should be rich majete got a positive response from the vast majority of singers sing well at the end Cronos, Mike Dean, King Diamond, Lee Dorrian, Lemmy, Snake, Wino, Eric Wagner, Brecht and Kurt Max Cavalera. Kim Thayil and Matt Sweeney (almost nothing) playing guitar and bass each in a song, but the rest of the disc is absolutely Dave Grohl.
In his own words Dave wanted to do a "Supernatural" (for the record by Santana), but in metal. The album is most interesting for several reasons, the first is the impressive cast of voices, just with those of Lee Dorrian, King Diamond, Lemmy, Max Cavalera, and Wino, to mention those I know, is a lujazo. Another reason is that power Grohl is reaffirmed in a series outside of the battery in all parts of the songs are wild and remote to be simple, in addition to match the style of each of the vocalists. The last reason I can think of is what it is funny to observe the mixing of the metal style of these pop songs with the wisdom that Grohl has demonstrated the last two albums is the Foo Fighters, becoming the metal in a very digestible. What is a metal disk? True, but it is pure hard rock with a touch of "stoner" fairly marked.
Disc highlight the songs of Max Cavalera, Lemmy, Wino and the Snake "Dictatosaurus" extremely similar to the style of the Smashing Pumpkins (Matt Sweeney, ex-Zwan plays guitar on this). "My Tortured Soul" with Eric Wagner has a sound as Stone Temple Pilots that leaves one thinking about where he heard earlier that guitar riff. Of course King Diamond also shines.
But the moment comes with the hidden track, "I am the Warlock", which is the lead singer ¡¡¡¡!!!!, the actor Jack Black and member of Tenacious D, for which Grohl played guitar and drums in his debut album.
I never liked the metal and as far I've come in this genre is "Turbolover" Judas Priest, but Grohl gets done entertaining ride that gives the genre, especially keeping the intensity from beginning to end. Nothing new under the sun, but the concept is smart, well-produced and used this approach to the underground metal of the 80 who do not let us see the dyed hair of the "hair bands."
