In Rock
Warner Bros. 1970
Deep Purple is considered an institution in the British hard rock, and one of the keys to understanding the genesis of Heavy Metal. Formed in Hertford, England in 1968, Deep Purple began his career as a simple band of musicians sitting in, with initial training that already included the guitarist Richie Blackmore.
After some early exploratory and somewhat erratic in which the Purple tontearon with classical music in the bizarre "Concerto For Group and Orchestra" enters Ian Gillan in the band, replacing the original vocalist Rod Evans, forming the so-called "Classical Education "The band, or" Mark II ". Blackmore assumes the role compositional, marking the path toward a harder sound, based on the guitars and in counterpoint to the powerful voice of Ian Gillan.
The first fruit of these changes is that "In Rock", considered the best work of the band and one of the cornerstones of modern Rock, a job that is absolutely devastating a genuine "Tour de Force" to the listener. From the bizarre initiation of distorted "Speed King" to the dark "Hard Loving Woman" there is little moments of respite, it unleashes a real orgy of "riffs" courtesy of a inspiradisimo Richie Blackmore on which are the howls of an Ian enfebrecidos Gillan in a state of grace.
Topics such as "Bloodsucker," "Into The Fire" or "Living Wreck" is, with the perspective that gives the time, authentic style manuals, and we can find the imprint of those guitars, those sounds, in groups of various kinds as Queens Of The Stone Age, Pearl Jam, The Cult, or Nirvana.
With this "In Rock" Deep Purple got a fantastic result commercial and critical, and the band began to stage the most successful and popular of his career, published in 1974 that "Smoke On The Water" which is undoubtedly the most famous song of the band and one of the most popular of all time.
In that same 1974 sale Ian Gillan of the band, being replaced by David Coverdale, then starting a process of immense change with training results certainly irregular. For the story is this classical training, and this record as one of the key elements of modern rock.

For me the best album of Deep Purple is "Machine Head." And not because it contains "Smoke On The Water". I've always preferred "Highway Star".
