Possibly the most famous rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar remains intact 31 years after their dramatic and expressive, some songs are still putting the hair-raising.
I remember I saw this movie for the first time with just eight or nine years, I learned nothing, but remained etched in my memory amount of images and sounds, now under a much more critical, the film remains a tremendously powerful The ambience, music, performance and all elements make up a strange film, original and exciting, though no doubt some will strike out of the hortera, outdated and cumbersome, certainly depends on your point of view of each.
Jesus Christ Superstar in 1973 was directed by Norman Jewison, responsible among other masterpieces as "In the Heat of the Night" (1967) or "fiddler on the Roof" (1971), although its musical nature gives perhaps more important to work Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice, responsible for all the music for the film, Lloyd is itself the perpetrator of major Broadway musicals such as Cats.
The idea of creating a musical based on the life of Jesus of Nazareth, in principle, an idea not too suggestive, is not now and I suppose that neither was at the time of its initial approach, ingredients are complicated, dangerous and committed, ingredients that normally would generate a product of dubious interest.
Success of Jesus Christ Superstar, his great virtue, is a wise and balanced combination of all its elements, the overall value beyond what specifically, it is certainly a compact and reliable.
The argument imposes a prudent distance from the typical biblical films, from the first time makes clear that the film is not the life of Jesus, but an interpretation by some players, and at the beginning of the film we get the bus with all the characters, who are dressed in costumes to start their representation of Christ's passion, this can add an interesting element is the excessive simplicity of the scene (just a few rags and a few scenarios skeletal) and striking beauty, as everything was filmed in a desert in Israel, a perfect natural setting for the story.
