- What is the only thing that is included in a film has ensured the success?.
- Sports!.
Had long wanted to see Turkish Delight, the best-known film at the stage of Dutch Paul Verhoeven, later author of blockbusters such as Robocop, Total Recall and Basic Instinct. I had been much talk of it, well, for years the most Grossing Dutch film, banned in Britain for "indecent" and nominated for an Oscar as best foreign film. One day I found available in the library of the neighborhood, and neither short nor lazy took me home.
Verhoeven is a director who likes the controversy. I am convinced that dialogue with the text that I have started this (in fact drawn from the great Ed Wood in Tim Burton) was in the mind of this man at the beginning of his career: "If the harmonized well with my films I will cover ", It would seem. Said and done, Turkish Delight responds to the fees typical in the cinema of the Dutch filmmaker, rich flesh and blood (in fact, his first American film was titled well, meat and blood. In Spain, was titled The gentlemen of steel, with a pair).
Despite how well I had spoken to Turkish Delight, the truth is that I felt pretty disappointing. At times I thought to be watching something like 9 songs or the ineffable Bigas Luna, in which the "argument" is nothing more than an excuse to raise a broad range of pears and moist cod. The screenplay, based on a popular book (in Holland) of a certain Jan Wolkers, is badly developed and has few holes through which it could be a tunnel excavator of the Metro de Madrid, with moments of extreme surrealism as the presentation between the couple protagonist, more own a porn film (or not spend two minutes of footage, and they're fucking, no more) or radical change in behavior of the mother of the girl to her partner, is going to treat it as junk in one scene to do as if it were his own son in another two steps further. There are sequences that are inserted with a shoehorn, and in a way so sudden that lead to confusion in the viewer. A disaster.
The most interesting aspect of this is in Rutger Hauer imbroglio. For those who have never seen or Turkish Delight The second season of steel Gentlemen (which performs a role quite similar) would be shocking to see the legendary "replicating" Blade Runner, actor fetish for Verhoeven in his early years, making "fuck machine "In the strictest sense of the term, bringing to light its side thug and Marrano (in all aspects), though its performance is not very convincing as we say.
Anyway, I at least I expected something else. I was heavy, at times a lead. My girlfriend and I started to laugh imagining what it would say more intelectualoide staff (which in many cases fluent in Turkish Delight) where this same film, identical, had been shot in the Spain's "uncover" and starring Nadiuska Arturo Fernandez. Perhaps my expectations were too high for what this film is of course yes, I do not know, but to say that it is "Verhoeven The best movie ever" (quote from a spectator removed from the IMDB) must be taken as some eggs large melons.
